Under the initiative of Dasho Dzongdag of Dzongkhag Administration, Monggar aerobic workout session was conducted yesterday at the public ground in Mongar Town

This initiative aims to promote physical activity as a means to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The session was jointly organized by the Dzongkhag Health Sector and the NCD Unit of the Eastern Regional Referral Hospital (ERRH).

The aerobic session was led by Miss. Cheten Zangmo, a staff of ERRH, while Sorig Lüjong, was facilitated by a Drungtsho and three Menpas. Of the 32 exercise steps in Sorig Lüjong, 10 selected steps were introduced to the participants.

Dasho Dzongdag expressed his appreciation to those who attended the first session and encouraged them to invite others to join in the future. Dasho emphasized that a combination of aerobics and Sorig Lüjong would be highly beneficial for both physical and mental well-being, particularly in reducing the prevalence of NCDs. Dasho further highlighted that this initiative is one of the key efforts by the Dzongkhag to address the rising cases of NCDs, as indicated in the 2024 nationwide NCD screening survey.

More than 30 individuals participated in the inaugural session, and a greater turnout is expected in the coming sessions. Initially, the aerobic sessions will be conducted three times a week (on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) for one hour. We encourage everyone to spread the word about this beneficial initiative and join us.

Regular participation in aerobic exercise and Sorig Lüjong has multiple health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, enhanced mental well-being, increased stamina and strength, weight management, better blood sugar control, and reduced chronic pain and stress.

We look forward to seeing more participants in the upcoming sessions!
