The Social and Cultural Committee of the National Council, led by its Chairman, Honorable Tshering, held a consultative meeting with the relevant stakeholders of ERRH yesterday to discuss pressing issues related to drugs, alcohol and other substance use problems.

The Medical Superintendent and members of the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) team provided updates on the current services available and highlighted the challenges faced in ensuring continuity of care for individuals struggling with substance use.
The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including the current service seekers and challenges, the need for service expansion to few other districts in the east, the growing concerns surrounding drug, alcohol, and other substance-related problems, and strategies to address these issues for the overall well-being of the nation. Various suggestions were put forth to enhance service delivery, improve rehabilitation efforts, reduce people from engaging in substance use and as well as the roles an education sector and parenting can play in combating the drug menace. Addressing these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach involving healthcare professionals, policymakers, families, communities and different stakeholders.
The Honorable members of the National Council are currently undertaking a visit to different sites to gather insights from different stakeholders to understand the ground realities and explore sustainable solutions to combat substance abuse problems in the country.
